MARCH 15, 2011 — HOUSTON — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —Another heart- and hoof-pounding RodeoHouston night has come to an end, and the top four rodeo contestants in each BP Super Series V event will move on to the Semifinals on March 16 or 17.

Tuf Cooper won Super Series V tie-down roping with $7,500. Cooper credits his horse for his win, saying his horse was outstanding and provided a great setup for Cooper.

Shane Hanchey, Jerome Schneeberger and Nate Baldwin also advance to the Semifinals in tie-down roping.

In bareback riding, Will Lowe took first in Super Series V with $8,000. Lowe advances with Dave Worsfold, Wes Stevenson and Royce Ford.

Derrick Begay and Cesar de la Cruz were the winning duo tonight in Super Series V team roping with $11,500. Cruz said Begay is a very mellow guy who is easy to get along with. The two team ropers grew up together and have been roping as a team for the last three years.

“I knew coming into the night we had to be fast,” Cruz said.

Also advancing to the Semifinals are the teams of David Key and Matt Garza; Britt Williams and Bobby Harris; and Jay Adams and Randon Adams.

Wade Sundell won Super Series V saddle bronc riding with $7,500. This is his third time to compete at RodeoHouston.

“Getting on a bucking horse is so fun,” Sundell said. “Get on a bucking horse for eight seconds, to win $50,000. What could be better?”

Also advancing to the Semifinals in saddle bronc riding are Heith DeMoss, Jake Hayworth and Cody Wright.

Nick Guy came all the way from Wisconsin to win steer wrestling in Super Series V and $7,000.

Trevor Knowles, Casey McMillen and Ethen Thouvenell also will advance to the Semifinals in steer wrestling.

In Super Series V bull riding, Steve Woolsey took the top spot winning $8,500. Woolsey said that he prepares his rides by having a set routine and putting on one boot at a time.

“My last bull wasn’t very fun, but I got him rode,” Woolsey said.

Shawn Hogg, Ted Bert and Corey Navarre also advance to the Semifinals in bull riding.

Deb Renger, on her new horse Shorty, was the winner of Super Series V barrel racing. Renger’s combined winnings were $7,500. Renger just purchased Shorty in December, and she said it seems like he really enjoys what he does.

“To win a great rodeo like this would be cool,” Renger said.

Also advancing in barrel racing are Jody Sheffield, Sheena Robbins and Kristen Williams.

The top four from each event and Semifinal round will advance to the BP Super Series Championship March 19. The remaining six from each event and Semifinal will compete in the Wild Card March 18, where the top two from each event will advance to the BP Super Series Championship and compete for $50,000.
